Made exclusively for iOS and Android devices, the game brings together the best of RCT and RCT2 to form a surprisingly good mobile port of a PC classic. Stealthily, under the cover of night, RollerCoaster Tycoon Classicwas released. Then, suddenly, just before Christmas, something amazing happened. To make matters worse, Frontier Developments, the iconic studio behind the original RCT games, was making Planet Coaster, and game that - rightly so - is one of the year’s surprise packets: it’s the spiritual successor to RollerCoaster Tycoon that we’ve all been waiting for. That begged the question: why release a trailer in the first place?Īfter a number of buggy betas and an eventual release, RollerCoaster Tycoon World surprised no one: it was about as compelling as a Ferris Wheel. The publisher came out and said that the game was in early stages of development, and that the graphics would be improved by launch. Except the game barely got out of the alpha stage before fans started bemoaning its quality.Ītari went into damage control: it released a trailer that looked so bad, the consensus was universally, exclusively negative. Then came RollerCoaster Tycoon World, the game that was supposed to right the wrongs of the mistakes of the mobile monstrosity. Strangely, a sequel to one of the greatest PC games of all time wasn’t coming to PC. It announced RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 to much excitement, only to softly ruined everyone’s nostalgic dreams by bringing it exclusively to mobiles, and plaguing it with in-app purchases (IAP). It didn’t help that it almost completely ruined a beloved franchise in RollerCoaster Tycoon. The gaming giant of yesteryear has gone through many a restructuring, not to mention a bankruptcy or two.

Although RCTC includes Panda World and Panda Themeing, it is missing the Pink Water download from RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.Atari appears intent on making up for what has been a bumpy few years.Scenarios from RCT2 remain unchanged in this regard. This was done to reflect the difference in park value calculation between RCT1 and RCT2. The Park Value scenarios from RCT1 have their minimum achievements raised from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars.The music track can be switched by closing the app and re-opening it. The game's main menu will play either the RCT1 or RCT2 music.There are 11 achievements with one being a secret achievement. The Steam release currently does not support achievements. Unfortunately, there is currently no option to restore previous purchases (including the game and in-app purchases), progress from Google Play cloud saves, and Google Play Games achievements from the previous Google Play release to the current Google Play release.Īchievements for the Android version can be unlocked in Google Play Games when signed into Google Play Games. Apparently, this was caused from technical difficulties and the game was re-released to the Google Play Store on March 7, 2019. In January 2019, the Android port's price on the Google Play Store was accidentally set to "free" and the game was delisted from the Google Play Store shortly after.

Its scenarios are divided into 10 difficulty groups: Graphite, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Amethyst, Coral, Ivory, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Wacky Worlds and Time Twister content, as well as a toolkit containing the scenario editor and the coaster designer grid, are available as separate in-app purchases in the mobile version while they are pre-installed in the PC version for free.
